These Terms govern your use of CitizenMate.com and its related citizenship interview practice services (the "Service"), provided by CitizenMate, LLC ("CitizenMate," "we," "us," or "our"). You must accept these Terms to create an account or purchase paid services. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information; acceptance of these Terms does not replace any separate privacy or messaging consent required by law.
Optional website tracking. The "Enhanced Website Experience & Relevant Offers" control manages optional analytics and advertising together for this browser. You can change it through the Cookies link in the footer or, when signed in, Settings → Security & Privacy. Essential cookies remain active, and declining optional tracking does not prevent access to the core Service. Our Privacy Policy explains regional defaults, saved choices, and how Global Privacy Control keeps advertising off. This control does not enroll you in email or text messages or authorize recurring charges.
1 Educational service
CitizenMate provides civics study tools, simulated interviews, automated feedback, and progress reports for educational preparation. CitizenMate is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of Homeland Security, or any other government agency. A simulated officer or AI voice is not a government official or human immigration adviser.
We do not provide legal advice, legal representation, immigration application services, or an assessment of eligibility for citizenship. No attorney-client relationship is created. We do not guarantee that you will pass an examination or interview, receive citizenship, or obtain any particular result. Consult a qualified professional for individualized legal advice.
Official requirements, test formats, and answers about public officials may change. Your location and interview date help personalize practice but do not establish which legal requirements apply to you. Verify current requirements and answers with USCIS and other official sources. Official government study materials may be available free of charge.
2 Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into these Terms. Provide accurate account and billing information, keep login credentials secure, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access. Accounts and purchased access are for your personal use unless we expressly agree otherwise. You are responsible for activity you authorize and for misuse caused by failing to take reasonable precautions; this does not remove any non-waivable protections for unauthorized transactions.
3 Free access and paid offers
We may offer a limited number of free questions or other demonstrations. Limits and available features may change. Trying free questions does not by itself authorize a paid subscription or charge. Paid access begins only after you select an offer and authorize payment through checkout.
The price, billing interval, included features or credits, and other material purchase terms shown before payment form part of your purchase agreement. Applicable taxes and mandatory charges will be disclosed as required. You authorize our payment provider to process the charges you agree to. You may not create multiple accounts or otherwise circumvent free-use or credit limits.
4 Subscriptions and renewal
If you select an automatically renewing subscription, it renews for the billing periods disclosed at checkout and your payment method is charged the disclosed price until you cancel. We will obtain the required consent to recurring charges and provide purchase confirmations and renewal notices as required by law. If you select non-renewing access, it ends after the purchased period unless you make another purchase.
Price or material subscription changes will apply prospectively with the notice and consent required by law. You may cancel before a changed renewal takes effect. We may suspend paid access if an authorized payment cannot be completed, subject to applicable law.
5 Cancellation and account closure
To cancel future subscription renewals, email [email protected] from your account email address and tell us to cancel. You may also send this ready-made cancellation email. No reason, telephone call, or retention offer is required. Use any cancellation control made available in your billing account as an additional option. We provide any further cancellation method required by applicable law.
Your cancellation is effective for future renewals when we receive it. A request received before the next renewal stops that renewal and later renewals. We will confirm cancellation by email and reverse a renewal charge processed after we received a timely cancellation. Unless your offer or applicable law states otherwise, you keep access until the end of the period already paid for. Canceling future renewals does not by itself entitle you to a refund for the current paid period. Simply ceasing to use the Service does not cancel an automatically renewing subscription.
Canceling paid access does not automatically delete your account or stored study history. Self-service account deletion is not currently available. You may request account closure and deletion by contacting us; requests are handled as described in our Privacy Policy. If we close your account at your request, we will also stop future subscription renewals. Privacy requests do not waive refund or other rights provided by law.
6 Credits
We may offer credits included with a subscription and additional credits purchased separately. The offer explains what a credit buys and any material limits, including whether credits roll over, expire, reset with a billing period, or require an active subscription to use. Only restrictions disclosed before purchase apply. If no expiration, reset, or forfeiture rule was disclosed for purchased credits, we will not impose one afterward. Credits granted free of charge may have the limits stated when granted.
Credits are a limited right to use eligible features within CitizenMate. They are not transferable, may not be resold, and cannot be redeemed for money except where required by law. A credit purchase does not start a new subscription or authorize automatic credit replenishment unless you separately select and authorize that arrangement.
Subscription cancellation does not itself erase separately purchased credits; their continued availability and use are governed by the terms disclosed when purchased and applicable law. If you believe credits were deducted incorrectly, contact support so we can investigate and correct verified accounting or technical errors.
7 Refund policy
Except where required by applicable law, subscription payments and credit purchases are non-refundable. We do not offer a satisfaction guarantee, a passing guarantee, or prorated refunds for unused subscription time, unused credits, or a decision to stop using the Service. Please use the available free questions to evaluate the experience before purchasing.
This policy does not limit remedies for unauthorized or incorrect charges, services not supplied where a remedy is legally required, or other mandatory cancellation, withdrawal, refund, or consumer rights. Any such rights remain available despite other wording in these Terms.
8 AI feedback and availability
AI-generated questions, transcriptions, evaluations, and reports may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Speech recognition can misunderstand words or accents, and automated grading may not reflect how an actual examiner would evaluate an answer. Scores and reports are study aids, not official results or guarantees of readiness.
We may update providers, models, or features and may temporarily interrupt service for maintenance or events outside our reasonable control. Material changes to paid offerings are subject to the applicable purchase terms and consumer protections. You are responsible for a compatible device, internet connection, and any permissions needed for features you choose to use.
9 Content and permitted use
You retain any ownership rights you have in your submitted content. You give CitizenMate a limited, non-exclusive license to receive, store, reproduce, transmit, and process that content as needed to provide and support the Service, create your reports, maintain security, and carry out the uses described in the Privacy Policy. This license does not authorize us to publish an identifying testimonial or success story without separate permission.
CitizenMate and its licensors retain their rights in the software, design, branding, and original content. We do not claim ownership of government works or other material in the public domain. Subject to these Terms and payment of applicable fees, you may use the Service for personal study and retain or share your own reports. You may not sell access, copy the product, or commercially redistribute protected materials without permission.
Do not use the Service unlawfully; access another person's account without authorization; interfere with security or operation; introduce malicious code; scrape the Service in bulk; evade payment or usage limits; or submit content that violates others' rights. Do not submit unnecessary sensitive records or another person's private information in practice responses.
10 Emails and optional SMS
We send account, billing, security, and service emails as needed. Requested study reminders follow your selections. Occasional promotional emails include an unsubscribe method. Unsubscribing from promotions or reminders does not cancel your paid subscription and does not prevent necessary account notices.
CitizenMate SMS Program. CitizenMate may then send limited automated study, account, or other service notifications described when you opt in. Frequency varies with the notifications and settings you select and will be explained at enrollment. Consent to texts is optional and is not required to purchase or use the core Service. We will not use a service-notification opt-in to send promotional texts.
Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe or HELP for assistance; you may also contact [email protected]. After an opt-out, we may send one confirmation and will stop further program messages unless you opt in again. Tell us if your number changes or no longer belongs to you. Message delivery is not guaranteed, and carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Text notifications are not an emergency service. Our Privacy Policy describes the handling of mobile information and consent records.
11 Suspension or termination
We may restrict or end access when reasonably necessary for material violations of these Terms, nonpayment, fraud, security concerns, or legal requirements. Where appropriate, we will provide notice and a reasonable opportunity to address a remediable problem. We may act immediately when necessary to protect the Service or others. Ending access does not eliminate statutory remedies or require you to pay for unauthorized future renewals.
If we discontinue the Service, we will give reasonable notice when practicable and address outstanding paid entitlements as required by the purchase terms and applicable law. Sections that by their nature should continue, including payment obligations already incurred, intellectual property, liability limitations, and dispute provisions, survive termination.
12 Disclaimers and limits of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, or error-free operation. This does not exclude any guarantee or warranty that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.
To the extent permitted by law, CitizenMate is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits or loss of data, arising from the Service. Our total liability for claims arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of US $100 or the amount you paid CitizenMate in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
These exclusions and limits do not apply to fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any liability, statutory damages, or remedy that cannot lawfully be limited. Nothing in these Terms waives non-waivable consumer or privacy rights. If a limitation is prohibited where you live, it applies only to the extent legally permitted.
13 Governing law and disputes
New Jersey law governs these Terms, without applying conflict-of-law principles, except that mandatory consumer protections in your place of residence continue to apply. Subject to any non-waivable right to bring a claim elsewhere, disputes may be brought in the state courts located in Passaic County, New Jersey, or the federal courts for the District of New Jersey with jurisdiction over the dispute. You may bring an eligible claim in a court of small-claims jurisdiction as permitted by law.
You may contact us first to seek an informal resolution. Doing so is not a prerequisite to exercising a legal right and does not shorten any applicable deadline.
14 Changes and general terms
We may revise these Terms prospectively and will provide notice of material changes and obtain renewed acceptance when required. Material changes will not retroactively alter an existing dispute or override terms already applicable to a purchase without a lawful basis. If you do not accept a material change, you may stop using the Service and cancel future renewals, subject to rights attached to an existing paid period.
These Terms and the applicable purchase disclosures are the agreement concerning the Service. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. A delay in enforcing a right does not waive it. Any assignment in connection with a business transfer remains subject to applicable law and our privacy commitments.
